When an eye sees correctly, the image and light is focused directly on the retina rather than in front or behind it. When you have normal vision, you can see objects equally as clearly if the are close or far away.

Farsighted eyes can see objects in the distance clearly, but objects nearby are blurry. This can range from severe to mild problems.  The eyes ability to focus is too weak. The eye may be too small or short from front to back, which causes light rays to be focused behind rather than on the back of your retina.

Children that are born farsighted many times do not have difficulty with their sight as the eyes ability is focus is stronger. Older people need glasses ro correct there vision so that they can read and see objects close up.

Corrective lenses
Wearing corrective lenses treats farsightedness by counteracting the decreased curvature of the cornea or the smaller size (length) of the eye.

If you had good, uncorrected vision before becoming farsighted, you may be able to use nonprescription, over-the-counter reading glasses. But check with your eye doctor about what's right for you.

Nearsighted eyes eyes can see nearby objects clearly, but objects in the distance are blurry. The image and light is focused in front of the retina, rather than on it. The length of the eye is longer than normal. Children with nearsightedness can have progressively worse vision as they grow.

Corrective lenses
Wearing corrective lenses treats nearsightedness by counteracting the increased curvature of your cornea or the increased length of your eye.
